What Is Software as a Service (SaaS)?
Software as a Service (SaaS) is software that a user can access 24/7 via the Internet. The user does not buy the software outright. Nor does the user install any software on his own computer’s harddisk. The user does not have to worry about doing backups or installing upgrades. All of that is handled by whoever hosts the software in the Internet. This is also known as Internet Cloud Computing.
As the availability and speed of the Internet has expanded, more and more applications have moved from the traditional “buy the shrink-wrapped box, open it, install it, and updated it when needed” method of obtaining software, to the SaaS model, where one only needs an Internet connection and Web browser to access their business data. Pretty much anywhere there’s an Internet connection will give you full access to your information!
