The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 or IRCA is a law introduced in the United States to curb illegal immigration. Also known as the Simpson-Mazzoli Act, IRCA required employers to follow certain rules when hiring new employees. After the introduction of the act, employers were required to provide proof of immigration status when hiring. The act also made it illegal for employers to knowingly recruit illegal and unauthorized immigrants.
