A business may authorize another entity to interact with the IRS for tax-related matters. Using Form 8655, businesses can authorize a third party to file payroll taxes on their behalf, either magnetic tape or electronically. The reporting agent serves as a link between the business and the IRS and helps businesses make tax deposits and file tax information to the local, state, and federal governments. The agent will receive oral and written information and notices. The disclosure of information may only extend to returns filed and payments made by the agent.
